Dutch State Commission Says Anti-Discrimination Efforts Fall Short
According to reports, the State Commission against Discrimination and Racism said in a new report that discriminatory practices remain deeply rooted in Dutch society and are structural in nature, extending into public institutions as well.
The commission urged authorities to go beyond simply avoiding discriminatory behavior, calling instead for proactive measures to prevent discrimination and strengthen equality and fair treatment across society.
Over the past four years, the body has conducted extensive research into discrimination in both the European and Caribbean parts of the Netherlands, publishing multiple reports along with policy recommendations and practical tools aimed at addressing the issue.
It also found that government efforts to combat discrimination require significant improvement. In addition, it warned that remarks made by politicians in parliament can contribute to a rise in discriminatory rhetoric online and in public discourse.
