Energy Markets Drop

(MENAFN) Energy commodities started to show declines on Wednesday after US President Donald Trump hinted at a swift conclusion to hostilities with Iran.

Speaking at a White House ceremony for signing a presidential decree, Trump announced that American troops would withdraw from Iran within a two- to three-week timeframe, suggesting a halt to the current military operations against the nation.

"All I have to do is leave Iran, and we’ll be doing that very soon, we'll be leaving very soon," Trump stated, adding that it could occur in "maybe two weeks, maybe three."

Brent crude futures were trading near $98 per barrel, down 5%, as of 0700GMT, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) slipped 4% to $97 per barrel.

Additionally, natural gas on the Dutch TTF benchmark fell by 6% to €47 ($54.5).
